ABOUT THE S.H.Y. LAB
The S.H.Y. Lab studies the molecular pathology and tumor immunology at the Institute of Biotechnology, National Taiwan University.
Dr. Shu-Han Yu’s laboratory has a well-defined focus on the immune mechanisms in the tumor microenvironment, adoptive cell therapy, and the potential role of the microbiome in cancer initiation and progression. The S.H.Y. lab has focused on tumor microenvironment of canine and feline. To illustrate the tumor infiltration immune cell components would help to develop therapeutic drugs for incurable diseases such as FISS or Mast cell tumors (MCTs).
In addition, we aim to categorize the tumor immune microenvironments (TIME) of three types of NSCLC: adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and large cell carcinoma by multiplex-IHC. We also plan to perform whole-exome sequencing to identify NSCLC specific TMB. We plan to build up an immune-based diagnostic platform, which can be a better guide to cancer care and contribute to precision medicine in the era of immuno-oncology and combination therapies. The laboratory also focuses on the influence of the microbiome on lung cancer development, progression, and/or resistance to therapy.

ABOUT THE P.I.
Dr. Shu-Han Yu is an assistant professor in the Institute of Biotechnology at National Taiwan University. With more than seven years of academic research experience at the Johns Hopkins University, four years of industrial experience, and the first two years at the National Defense Medical Center as an assistant professor, Dr. Yu has been focusing on applying her expertise in translational medicine and molecular pathology to the studies of precision medicine, the potential role of the microbiome in lung carcinogenesis, immunotherapy, and immune components in the tumor microenvironment.
PROJECTS
PROJECT 1: INTEGRATIVE ANALYSIS OF TUMOR MICROENVIRONMENT (TME) IN NON-SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER (NSCLC)
建立整合性非小細胞肺癌精準醫療平台
In this project, multiplex-immunohistochemistry (multiplex-IHC), multiplex-immunofluorescence (multiplex-IF), and in-situ hybridization would be performed to identify the clinicopathological features in NSCLC.
PROJECT 2: LUNG-SPECIFIC NEOANTIGENS IN IMMUNOTHERAPY
1. The relationship between lung-specific neoantigens and tumor immune microenvironment (TIME).
2. Identification of neoantigen-specific T cells for lung cancer.
3. Lung-specific neoantigens in adoptive cell therapy (ACT).
In this project, whole exome sequencing (WES) and RNA seq will be performed to identify NSCLC specific mutations and neoanigens.
PROJECT 3. Targeting Tumor Immune Microenvironment (TIME) for Cancer Therapy in FISS and Mass Cell Tumors (MCTs)
In this project, several molecular pathology techniques would be used to study the tumor microenrironment of multiple cancer types in canine and feline, including immune cell sorting (FACS/MACS/AutoMACS), immunohistochemistry (IHC), multiplex-IHC (Opal), in situ hybridization, multiplex-in situ, and immunofluorescence (IF).
